Enlightenment and nirvana exist and it is the highest happiest release from suffering for the being, if you think heaven is the highest permanent release from suffering you are deluded heading for suffering because after you have finished your lifespan in heaven that may last thousands of world cycles, depending on what you have previously done you can go down to hell (this is a truth) according to the Buddha.

Not everyone can see the truth and understand, in fact the vast majority even very intelligent people are unable to see the truth and understand. Even if you are tired of existing, the Devil, who is the king of death does not let anyone escape from death easily. To escape death you must completely abandon this world, let go of everything and you must reach the highest concentration where you finally stop all fabricating, stop all using memory.

They are struggling to avoid depression when they cannot extricate, pull themselves out of sadness. They are depressed, in danger of suicide.
