Global
markets for shares, bonds and commodities fall and the dollar rises after the
US central bank signals it may scale back stimulus later this year
Most of the money the Fed prints is to repay (bailout) bondholders and
these are rich people. Poor people do not hold bonds. And these people bailed
out are not going to return their money to the system and so the system remains
impoverished. What these people do is lend their money to Asian nations and
companies in search of returns and countries like Indonesia and Thailand
(including Malaysia?) have been taking advantage to borrow which means their
recent prosperity (that may be misspent) is based debt at cheap rates which may
be coming to an end.

Credit Tightens in China as
Central Bank Takes a Hard Line

HONG KONG
— China’s financial system is in the throes of a cash squeeze as the government
tries to restructure the economy and punish speculators, with interbank lending
rates spiking on Thursday and bank-to-bank borrowing nearly stalled.
China’s
interbank and money market rates have soared over the last two weeks, and banks
and other financial institutions are afraid of lending to one another. Without
that lending, an economy can quickly stultify. Those in need of short-term
cash, or liquidity, must pay dearly or risk default.
China’s
central bank, the People’s Bank of China, has refused to provide large amounts
of additional cash to the credit market. Analysts say the government is holding
off for a reason: it is trying to reshape the economy while reducing its future
role. The bank is not independent, unlike many other central banks, and reports
to the State Council.
A
huge shadow banking operation has emerged in China in recent years, with
smaller banks and trust companies borrowing from bigger state-run banks and
relending that money at high interest rates to private companies and property
developers, a practice that fuels speculation.
Pressuring
speculators is a risky strategy for the Chinese government, which is also
grappling with a slowing economy. Many borrowers may have a harder time paying
back their loans, and analysts fear the losses could ripple through the banking
system.
“The
central bank wants to accelerate reform,” said Zhu Haibin, an economist at
JPMorgan Chase. “They want to give the market a lesson: you need to manage your
risk and not rely on the central bank.”
Mr. Zhu
and other economists say restructuring the economy, which has grown addicted to
easy money, could be perilous for another reason. The decision could reduce
lending and slow growth too quickly.
The worst
case, absent intervention by policy makers, would be defaults at lenders with
the most exposure and shakiest balance sheets. The damage could spread to other
banks, setting off runs on deposits by ordinary Chinese. In the near term,
markets will probably continue to be rattled, especially shares in financial
institutions.
That was
certainly the fear on Thursday around the globe. “China’s interbank market is
basically frozen — much like credit markets froze in the United States right
after Lehman failed,” said Patrick Chovanec, managing director and chief strategist
at Silvercrest Asset Management. “Rates are being quoted, but no transactions
are taking place.”
Stock
markets across greater China fell Thursday on news of the liquidity situation
and a disappointing survey on manufacturing. The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong
dropped 2.9 percent, and the Shanghai composite index fell 2.8 percent.
The
combination of slower economic expansion and the liquidity squeeze offers one
of the biggest challenges yet to the newly installed leadership in Beijing.
Prime
Minister Li Keqiang, who took office in March, has said he plans changes that
will promote sustainable growth, as opposed to relying on the easy credit from
state-controlled banks that helped the country rebound since the 2008 financial
crisis.
“While
the economy faces up to many difficulties and challenges, we must promote
financial reform in an orderly way to better serve economic restructuring,”
China’s State Council said in a statement Wednesday after a meeting presided by
Mr. Li, according to Xinhua, the state-run news agency.
The
interest rate that Chinese banks must pay to borrow money from one another
surged overnight to a record high of 13.44 percent Thursday, according to
official daily rates set by the National Interbank Funding Center in
Shanghai. That was up from 7.66 percent on Wednesday and less than 4 percent
last month.
China’s
policy makers have an arsenal of options at their disposal to inject more money
into the financial system, including open market operations — trading in
securities to control interest rates or liquidity — or, more drastically,
freeing up some of the trillions of renminbi that banks are required to keep on
reserve with the central bank.
In the
past, when China’s economy hits a rough patch, the government usually steps in,
forcing state-run banks to pump liquidity into the market, even though there
was a risk it could drive up asset prices.
If the
central bank’s inaction toward the deepening liquidity squeeze is a form of
financial brinkmanship, some analysts see it as aimed at reining in smaller
banks that had been tapping the interbank market as a source of low-cost funds
for their investment in higher-yielding bonds, or for off-balance-sheet
activities.
Ting Lu,
China economist at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, said on Thursday in a
research note that although the surge in interbank lending rates could have its
desired effect on reckless lenders, “it will undoubtedly disrupt both the
financial markets and the real economy if the liquidity squeeze lasts too
long.”
China’s
economy has been showing signs of a slowdown in recent months. Economists at
HSBC joined counterparts at several other banks on Wednesday in cutting growth
forecasts for the Chinese economy this year.
On
Thursday, a preliminary survey of factory purchasing managers in June suggested
that output in China had fallen to its lowest level in nine months, as
manufacturers cut production in response to slackened demand both at home and
overseas.
The
preliminary purchasing managers’ index, published by HSBC and compiled by
Markit, dropped to 48.3 points in the first three weeks of June, its lowest
level since September and down from a final figure of 49.2 in May. A reading
above 50 indicates growth, and anything below signals contraction.
“Beijing
prefers to use reforms rather than stimulus to sustain growth,” said Qu
Hongbin, HSBC’s chief economist for China, in a statement accompanying the
survey results. “While reforms can boost long-term growth, they will have a
limited impact in the short term.”
The rise
in interbank rates began two weeks ago, before China went on a three-day
national holiday. Banks typically face higher demand for cash before public
holidays, and the initial uptick in rates was not seen as abnormal.
But as
the situation worsened, the central bank refrained from injecting new money
into the system. Benchmark seven-day repurchase rates, another measure of
borrowing costs, briefly soared as high as 25 percent on Thursday, up from 8.5
percent on Wednesday, before closing at 11.2 percent.
Credit
dependent economies always end in disaster:
Economies dependent on credit or debt to grow and prosper are built on
quicksand and will collapse, it can be postponed again and again but the longer
it is postponed the more terrible the outcome and so it may be that China will
be the last major domino to fall and this will bring forth even greater
hardship.
Why
China is clamping down on credit:
It may not be China has seen the light, turned a new leaf but the cancer
has become too widespread to ignore, disaster is looming and too late has the
brakes been finally slammed on and now the economy may or will go into a
tailspin.

bloated. Further capitalists like Soros and Goldman Sachs invade the commodity
(eg oil) markets, even currency markets like sharks making fat profits at the
expense of the system eg you pay more for oil and if your currency is devalued,
Soros pockets billions.
The bankers are not punished for the misdeeds but their companies
(Goldman Sachs was converted into a commercial bank so that it could receive
federal aid) bailed out and bankers were given golden parachutes for shitting
all over the place and when it comes to money printing to save the system, the
lion share of the printed money is handed to capitalists holding bonds, the
masses have taken over the debts of the bondholders.

It is dangerous, wrong and false to assume that because the share prices
are so much you are worth so much and yet it is how this world sees things and
works.
You cannot extrapolate wealth from asset prices (shares, property) which
are always illusionary. Money does not grow on trees, the system does not
instantly become richer and poorer by billions due to the gyrations of asset
prices and the wealth was never there in the first place.

Timing
makes you a slave not master:
There are many activities people participate in which timing is very
important eg playing an instrument in an orchestra or singing in a choir or
hitting a tennis ball or badminton or marching as a group in which they must

person a robot to the object that they time themselves to.
Thus the tennis player may think he is a master of tennis but he is a

INFORMATION BUT IT IS BECAUSE IT IS STEALING, STEALTH THAT IT IS WRONG.
If you charge him with spying then you imply spying is illegal and wrong
and so how come he is wrong spying but you are right spying?
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS GOOD AND BAD SPYING, ALL SPYING IS BAD AND SO
YOU WILL BE PUNISHED FOR SPYING AND PERSECUTING OTHERS. SNOWDEN MAY NOT BE
SPYING BUT THE US WAS DEFINITELY SPYING, SECRETLY STEALING INFORMATION.
Concern
but for what?
Does the drying-up of lending between banks in China
presage a financial crisis, following five years of massive credit and
investment growth? And for investors, is China a
bigger source of concern than the end of massive money creation by
the US Fed?
It is not that people in this world are not concerned, they are very
concerned, very anxious, but for the wrong or perishable things and they will
perish with their perishable concerns.
There are many who will be anxious, concerned about credit developments
in China but they are concerned for their material wellbeing or prosperity that
is a wrong concern.
In the same way many are concerned even obsessed by their physical health,
the foods they eat, their assets, the image they project to others and because
these are false, meaningless, emotion or force driven concerns, they are
suffering and lead to perishing even eternally.
The
Fed’s next move:
If the US economy is strong as a result of the Fed’s interventions or
tinkering then it is strong not on merit, not on true good hard work but strong
based on false actions without work being done and this is never good but leads
to disaster later on.
THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF STRONG ECONOMIES, ONE IS BASED ON MERIT, IT IS BY
HARD WORK, SAVINGS OR ACCUMULATION OF WEALTH OR RESERVES THAT AN ECONOMY IS
STRONG AND THERE IS THE FALSELY STRONG ECONOMY MIRED IN DEBT, DEVOID OF SAVINGS
(BANKRUPT) DEPENDENT ON THE FALSE CHEATING TINKERING OF GOVERNORS (PRINT MORE

MALACCA:
Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said there is
no necessity for the Selangor government to set up a commission of inquiry to
investigate allegations of electoral fraud and election regulation violations
in the state during the 13th general election (GE13).
The reaction is actually an indication of guilt because if there was no
fraud, you knew you did nothing wrong, you will welcome an inquiry that will
clear your name, but if there was wrongdoing then you would like to stop others

nature of toughness:
People talk about toughness and people in this world are tough, very

is about stirring one’s force to oppose and hold at bay or resist the force
that is causing suffering either by self and others.
TOUGHNESS IS ABOUT THE ABILITY OF A PERSON TO RESIST AND WITHSTAND

ARE A GOAT THEN YOUR DESTINATION IS ETERNAL SUFFERING.
You can languish in the deepest of hells for even many billions of years
according to the Buddha, do you think you can have your sentence commuted or
reduced? Once you have committed yourself to millions of years in the furnace
of hell there is no going back and so it is not good but evil these reduction
of sentences that would have karma for those responsible, for judges who
preside over them.
IT IS EVIL NOT GOOD TO REDUCE JAIL SENTENCES AND THOSE WHO PRESIDE OVER
SUCH REDUCTION HAVE KARMA NOT MERIT. EVEN IF THE PERSON IS VERY SICK OR GOING
TO DIE IS NOT REASON TO RELEASE HIM EARLY.
What
Snowden did is correct never wrong:
Unless what Snowden exposed was fabricated, if what he exposed was true
it is always correct never wrong and it reflects absence of true understanding
in this world that nobody realizes this.
The US denied wrongdoing and so if what Snowden exposed was the truth
and the US did no wrong, it is mad to prosecute him and there will be painful
karma for those who want to convict him.
If what the US did is bad then it is never wrong but correct to expose
wrongdoing and it is wrong with karma attached to hide wrongdoing.
ANYONE WHO EXPOSES WRONGDOING IS NEVER DOING WRONG.

to understand is always suffering and dangerous:
If a person does not truly understand things happening, it is always
suffering because he must be perplexed & stressed (his self resistance
raised) and it is dangerous because he is at risk of being tricked.
A person who truly understands things happening, is free of perplexity
and distress, he is not in danger of being deceived. Thus in the hullabaloo
about Snowden, he knows without perplexity and stress the truth of the matter

For
China, Edward Snowden's sudden arrival in Hong Kong brings both a gift and a
dilemma, says the BBC's Damian Grammaticas.
When something happens, the calculating person, the person who has been
well programmed automatically starts looking at implications, at the pros and
cons and this is always false, never true and leads to suffering and insanity.
Nowadays when things happen, I perceive but I am not provoked to think.
You need to think to delve into the implications of Snowden for China which is
always a fabrication for those who are well programmed to calculate they think
is so realistic when it is artificial, fantasy.

Prime
Minister Lee Hsien Loong has urged the nation to be psychologically
prepared for a prolonged period of haze due to the dry season and
monsoon winds.
How does one psychologically prepare for a prolonged period of haze and
is it of any use? Does one become resigned (despondent) or never give in, fight
till the end?
Politicians are well programmed to proffer advice or solutions for
everything under the sun and so even when faced with checkmate they proffer the
silly solution be prepared psychologically. How on earth does one prepare
psychologically and if it does not work, is useless then it is controlled
insanity, make belief that ends in insanity.
IF WHAT YOU SAY DOES NOT MAKE SENSE, IT IS NOT INCONSEQUENTIAL BUT
SERIOUS, IT IS THE WAY TO TOTAL SILLINESS AND THAT IS MAD.
Big
companies likely to be blamed for haze:
If I were to hazard a guess it would be the recent influx of big
companies with massive clearing in search of fabulous wealth of palm oil who
are to blame for the haze from Sumatra and Borneo rather than the smallholders.
Such hazes were not so much the problem in the past and it is in recent
years that they have become even a health problem and this is has coincided with
well documented investment in forest clearing and oil palm plantations in
Sabah, Sarawak, Kalimantan and Sumatra with Malaysian and Singaporean companies
proffering their expertise to massively rapidly transform the landscape.
IF ANYTHING, THE INFLUX OF BIG COMPANIES WITH MASSIVE CLEARANCE OF LAND
AND PLANTING OF OIL PALM ARE TO BLAME FOR THE HEALTH ENDANGERING HAZES AND
WHILST THESE COMPANIES MAY BE MALAYSIAN OR SINGAPOREAN, THE PROFITS THEY MAKE
DO NOT BELONG TO MALAYSIANS AND SINGAPOREANS.

LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has urged the Natural Resources and
Environment Minister to look into a mechanism to demand compensation from
Indonesia for the damage caused by the haze.
All the money in the world cannot compensate from the health damages of
the haze except if you are a mercenary, money is what matters to you and you
are willing to trade anything for money.
The important thing is to put to a stop the burning that is the cause of
the haze, not look for getting compensation which is about wanting to punish
others and being money minded.
Snowden
correct and courageous:
Snowden’s action is not just correct but it is courageous because he
exposes himself to a lot of potential suffering eg forfeiture of freedom,
physical punishment and jailing if extradited. His fame is more notorious than
admired by ordinary people and so unless he is a fool, he is courageous,
exposing himself to a lot of loss (of freedom) and potential suffering by
speaking out.
Understanding
the karma of the Snowden matter:
The Buddha said the great man is not entangled and Snowden is entangled
in that he works unwholesomely for an intelligence gathering company and he
exposes their wrongdoing.
One should not be entangled if one wants to escape suffering and to work
for intelligence and to expose their misdeeds is to be entangled.
His action in exposing the hidden, secret misdeeds is always correct
never wrong, to abet, to conceal wrongdoing is always wrong. If you say the US
did no wrong then he exposed the truth that the US did no wrong so why is the
US so upset? Partly it is because the US has been exposed, ‘outed’ in modern
phraseology. His action is courageous because he exposes himself to retaliation
even death for ‘treason’, many Americans will hate him.
ONE SHOULD NOT BE ENTANGLED IF ONE WANTS TO ESCAPE SUFFERING AND SNOWDEN
IS ENTANGLED.

Big
money rather than smallholders the cause of haze:
Anecdotally according to reporters who visited Pekan Baru in Sumatra,
large swaths of land have been cleared off jungle for plantation and you need
money and connections to establish plantations there and it seemed a lot of the
land has been bought.
It should be possible to pinpoint by satellite where the sources of
fires are and so who are responsible for the burning and it is likely to
reflect the precedent in Sarawak where natives have been deprived of their
lands which have been cleared massively for oil palm plantations.
YOU NEED TO BE VERY RICH AND HAVE POLITICAL CONNECTIONS TO BUY LARGE
PIECES OF JUNGLE TO CONVERT TO OIL PALM ESTATES IN SARAWAK AND THESE ARE LIKELY
TO BE CULPRIT FOR BURNING WHICH IS A CHEAP AND EASY WAY TO COMPLETE CLEARANCE
WITHOUT CONCERN FOR THE WELFARE OF OTHERS.
IF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SARAWAK (LARGE SCALE CONVERSION OF LAND TO OIL
PALM) IS A PRECEDENT, IT WILL NOT BE AMISS TO BUDDING GET RICH CAPITALISTS
EVERYWHERE TO COPY THE SAME MODUS OPERANDI IN SUMATRA AND KALIMANTAN. OF COURSE
THEY WOULD DENY RESPONSIBILITY AND BLAME IT ON PRIMITIVE NATIVES AND GULLIBLE

environmental management and would not indulge in mass burning to rid their
cleared land of cleared vegetation?
If they were scrupulous people they would not have ventured into the plantation

And if they would ruthlessly clear jungle and replace them with
plantation, what more that they would refrain from the easy and cheap way out
by burning?
The mass scale of the haze reflects the mass scale of the burning and
only rich powerful plantation owners have the clout to produce mass dense haze.

and the oil speculator’s karma:
It is because oil speculators have pushed the price of oil so high that
biodiesel is viable or profitable and so many have jumped on the bandwagon of
oil palm plantations that has resulted in the rape of forests and the burning
to clear them and so the karma for so much suffering can be laid at the feet of
oil speculators that you refute to your chagrin when you burn in hell as God
destroys your soul.
DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE KARMA AND SUFFERING DUE OIL SPECULATORS WHO
CAUSE CONSUMERS TO PAY EXCESSIVELY FOR OIL AND TRIGGER A LOT OF WOE EG
ENVIRONMENTAL DESTRUCTION AND HAZE AS FORESTS GET DESTROYED TO GET ON THE
BIODIESEL GET RICH QUICK WAGON.
IN THE SAME WAY IT IS BECAUSE THE US PAYS WITH USD IT DOES NOT EARN THAT
CHINA IS WEALTHY ENOUGH TO BUY LOTS OF SOYA BEANS THAT CAUSES THE AMAZON TO BE
DESTROYED TO PRODUCE SOYA BEANS. IF THE US DID NOT PRINT USD IT DID NOT EARN,
CHINA WOULD BE MUCH POORER AND WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BUY SO MUCH SOYA BEANS FROM
BRAZIL AND THE AMAZON WOULD REMAIN INTACT.
WHOEVER MAKES AN ACQUISITION IN THIS WORLD IS A FOOL HEADING FOR
SUFFERING SAID THE BUDDHA THAT YOU IGNORE TO YOUR FUTURE SUFFERING THAT FAR
EXCEEDS YOUR DARKEST NIGHTMARES.
Why
facemasks don’t work against haze or viruses:
If facemasks are effective in filtering out the haze, then you would not
have to resort to elaborate high voltage charging of the smoke particles and
using charged plates to repel and trap the particles or elaborate industrial
strength filters.
Car air filters are not filters for smoke but dust which are much bigger
particles and industrial masks even if they filter out odours (as in medical
forensic masks) or spray paint (paint aerosols may still be much bigger
particles) may still fall short.
VIRUSES ARE EVEN SMALLER THAN SMOKE PARTICLES.
IF SIMPLE MASKS CAN FILTER OUT SMOKE THERE WOULD BE NO NEED FOR
INDUSTRIAL AIR FILTERS THAT REQUIRE HIGH VOLTAGE CHARGING OF SMOKE PARTICLES AND
THEN REPULSION AND ATTRACTION OF THOSE CHARGED PARTICLES PASSING BETWEEN
CHARGED PLATES. EVEN SUCH EXTRACTION OF SMOKE BY CHARGE IS NOT TOTALLY
EFFECTIVE AND REQUIRES MANY CYCLES TO RELATIVELY CLEANSE THE AIR OF SMOKE.

If something does not work and you put on the mask thinking it works or
hoping it works you must stir resistance as you do it and that leads to stress

this is worse than suffering the harm of haze.
THERE ARE SOME REALITIES OR TRUTHS ABOUT LIFE YOU MUST FACE EG WHATEVER
IS AN ARISING THING DOES NOT LAST FOREVER AND YOU WILL DIE AND THERE IS NOTHING
MUCH YOU CAN DO ABOUT THE HAZE EXCEPT EMPLOY HIGH POTENTIAL DEVICES TO CHARGE
AND REMOVE THE CHARGED SMOKE BY ATTRACTION PLATES. EVEN THIS WORKS BY REPEATED
CYCLES OF PASSING OVER THE AIR INTO THE FILTER.
Thus all those who ‘make a killing’ selling face masks like hot cakes are
themselves dicing with insanity if they pretend it works and recommend it to
others not because they know it works but to make money.
Desperation
is not a valid reason for action:
You could say you don a face mask because you are in trouble and
desperate to do something to save your dear life but desperation is not only
not a valid reason for doing something (wear face mask) it is delivering
yourself to death and suffering because it trains you to do things by stirred
blind force that will one day kill you.
IF DESPERATION IS THE REASON YOU PUT ON A FACE MASK IT MEANS STIRRED
BLIND FORCE IS THE DANGEROUS BASIS FOR ACTION AND IT IS ALWAYS DANGEROUS TO
BASE ACTION ON STIRRED BLIND FORCE THAT WILL ONE DAY KILL YOU AND CONSIGN YOU
TO ETERNAL SUFFERING AND DEATH. BETTER TO CALMLY FACE SUFFERING AND DEATH AND
HEAD FOR SAFETY, HEAVEN AFTER DEATH THAN DESPERATELY CLUTCH AT STRAWS AND FALL
INTO HELL.
You
must always base actions on calm clear reason:
If you treasure your life and wish to avoid endless suffering and death
you must TRAIN yourself to always base your actions and speech on calm clear
reason and to refrain from acting or speaking when your mind is stirred or
agitated or disturbed.
The Buddha said spill a drop from a pot brimful of oil balanced on your
head even if someone pushed you and straightaway your head will be cut off and
so if you are induced to base your actions on stirred emotion, on agitation or
confusion you are doomed for suffering.

I don't
know what I was expecting, but it was certainly something spectacular.
Given the
volume of smog that has been spewed across Singapore and Malaysia in the last
few days, it would have to be something big.
But after
eight hours driving along terrible roads, with even worse traffic, I was
starting to doubt my own sanity.
"Where
can all this smoke be coming from if there are no fires?"
In fact
we had seen fires, or at least their aftermath. Dozens of them, little
blackened patches of land, some just a few square meters.
In my
mind there was no way such weedy fires could have caused the "mega
smog".
Then just
before sunset, somewhere north of the city of Dumai
we found it: mile after mile of charred blackened land, the smoke still rising,
the earth still hot underfoot.
Sumatra is the new frontier for palm oil producers
A gust of
wind, and the flames leaped up again from smouldering tree stumps. The air was
thick, acrid and unbreathable.
But even
here anyone expecting to see spectacular forest fires would be disappointed.
The truth
is these are not really forest fires at all. The
forest has already been cut for timber.
This is land clearance by fire, classic slash and burn, but on a much larger scale.
Blame
game

Who is
doing it? Certainly not anyone I spoke to.
Everybody
here knows it is illegal and controversial, so everyone blames someone else.
The
farmers blame the oil palm corporations. The corporations blame the farmers.
But the
truth is everyone is doing it. Burning is a way of
life in Sumatra.
One local
woman, whose house has been damaged by the fires, was disarmingly honest about
what goes on.
"The
farmers burn the forest all the time," she said. "They burn it so the
land can be planted.
"The
trouble is this time, because of the very dry weather and high winds, the fires
have got out of control."
Just
20 or 30 years ago, eastern Sumatra was covered by a huge swamp forest. Today
there is barely any left.
Sumatra's towns and cities are also affected by the
haze
Industrial
irony
Instead,
on our eight-hour drive from Pekanbaru to Dumai the forest has been replaced
entirely by a massive monoculture: mile after mile
after mile of oil palm plantation.
It is a
huge industry: the oil is in high demand from the food industry, cosmetics,
even for biofuel. Now there's an irony.
Indonesia
is now the word's biggest producer of palm oil, more than 20 million tonnes per
year. And Sumatra is its new frontier.
The
people who have come here, both the corporations and the farmers, are looking
for new land to open up.
There is
little romance about the loss of the rainforest, or its wildlife.
It
is all about money. Greed and conservation have never made good bedfellows.
Shifting
winds blowing smog to KL than Singapore:
Apparently the center of the blazes are at Dumai north of Pekan Baru and
shifting winds means KL is now the recipient of the smog more than Singapore.
Sumatran
peat fires very difficult to douse:
BBC reporter suggests the fires are used to clear vast area of land to
plant oil palm and big companies are more to blame. The land was formerly swamp
which have peat or organic material underneath like in Sepang Malaysia and once
these underground peat have been ignited they smoulder long after and produce
copious acrid smoke and are difficult to douse.
VAST AMOUNTS OF ORGANIC MATERIAL OR PEAT EXISTS UNDERGROUND IN SWAMP
AREAS OF SUMATRA THAT HAVE BEEN RAVAGED FOR THE SAKE OF HUGE OIL PALM
PLANTATIONS AND THIS PEAT CAN BE IGNITED BY EVEN MINOR SURFACE BURNING AND ONCE
BURNING THEY PRODUCE COPIOUS SMOKE AND ARE DIFFICULT TO DOUSE OFF, NEED HEAVY
PROLONGED RAIN TO DOUSE.
THUS ALL THIS TALK ABOUT CLOUD SEEDING BY INDONESIAN AUTHORITIES ARE
MOSTLY FOR SHOW, UNLIKELY TO WORK, ONCE PEAT SWAMPS BURN YOU NEED HEAVY RAIN TO
PUT OFF AND THE IMPORTANT THING IS NOT TO IGNITE THEM.

just smog but copious greenhouse gases are released:
Not just cancer and respiratory distress causing smog is released but
greenhouse gases like CO2, methane are released in copious amounts by the
smouldering underground peat fires and this will hasten the demise of mankind
through global warming.
IT IS VIRTUALLY SUICIDAL TO DISTURB PEAT SWAMPS IN THE NAME OF GREED TO
PLANT OIL PALM. ONCE DENUDED OF COVERAGE THE PEAT ARE SUBJECT TO DRYING, EASILY
IGNITED TO PRODUCE FIRES WITH LITTLE FLAMES BUT LOTS OF SMOKE COMING FROM
UNDERGROUND AND THEY ALSO RELEASE COPIOUS GREEN HOUSE GASES THAT HASTEN
MANKIND’S DEMISE. PEAT FIRES ARE NOTORIOUSLY DIFFICULT TO EXTINGUISH AND NEED
SOAKING RAIN TO PUT OUT.
Expect
a long haze because it is peat fire:
Because it is a peat fire that is largely underground and smoulders and
is hard to extinguish you can expect an extended haze, there is little
Indonesian authorities or anybody can do unless heavy rain falls.
To mankind it is a matter of clearing swamps to plant oil palm but it is
like stirring a hornets’ nest because the peat underlying becomes a deadly
source of smog and greenhouse gases.
FOR ONE WHO UNDERSTANDS AND HAS TRUE LOGIC, THE FACT THAT IT IS A PEAT

GOING TO PERSIST, FLARING UP AND SUBSIDING A BIT UNTIL THE BIG RAINS DOUSE IT
OUT FOR ANOTHER YEAR.
MANKIND HAS STIRRED A HORNETS’ NEST CLEARING SWAMPS TO PLANT OIL PALM
AND THIS SMOG AND GLOBAL WARMING WILL HAUNT MANKIND EVEN FOR A LONG TIME.
With
peat, even small fires can create havoc:
Because it is a peat fire, even if primitive people or plantations start
small fires, should those fires ignite the underlying peat they will run out of
control to produce catastrophic smog.

Peat
produces more smoke than fire:
Because it is underground and poorly oxygenated, peat fires tend to
produce more smoke than fire. If it was an open air fire more CO2 and less smog
will be produced but because it is peat and underground, less fire and more
smoke is generated.
THE CLEARING OF SWAMP WITH UNDERLYING PEAT IS LIKE A CURSE MANKIND HAS
SET UPON HIMSELF FOR COLLECTIVE RECKLESSNESS AND GREED.
So
who is to blame for the smog?
Peat fires produce a lot of smoke but little fire because they are
underground and there is lots of peat in the cleared swamps of Sumatra.
The blame for the smog is the ORIGINAL clearing of swamps to plant oil
palm that exposes a lot of peat and dried them out so that now they become a
very dangerous annual fire and smog hazard that can be sparked by even small
fires whether by smallholders or plantations.
ONCE EXPOSED THE MASSIVE DRIED PEAT BECOMES AN ANNUAL TINDERBOX WAITING
TO BE IGNITED EVEN BY SMALL SCATTERED FIRES AND ONCE STARTED THEY PRODUCE MUCH
MORE SMOKE THAN FIRE AND THEY ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP BECAUSE THEY ARE
UNDERGROUND AND SPREAD UNDERGROUND RATHER THAN SURFACE.
From
an annual source of oxygen to annual source of smog:
Thus the verdant former swamps of Sumatra are converted by mankind’s
wanton greed from an annual source of ‘fresh’ oxygen to an annual source of
hazardous smog that would be hard to eradicate.
IN THE PAST, BREATHABLE OXYGEN ENAMATED FROM THE SWAMPS OF SUMATRA
TOWARDS MALAYSIA AND SINGAPORE, NOW THIS ANNUAL SUPPLY OF OXYGEN IS REPLACED BY
SUFFOCATING SMOG, ‘THANKS’ TO MANKIND’S GREED.
It reflects mankind’s dense delusion that he even contemplates spending
as an avenue to richness.
You never spend yourself to richness but poorness.
You spend a lot and are still rich if you have other sources of income
that makes you rich even as you spend or if your spending is an investment on
products that will earn more income.
SPENDING ON CONSUMPTION IS A WASTE OF MONEY THAT MAKES YOU POORER AND
THE ONLY WAY A PERSON CAN SPEND AND YET BE RICHER IS IF HE HAS OTHER SOURCES OF
INCOME THAT OUTSTRIPS HIS SPENDING AND THIS IS NOT SPENDING THAT MAKES HIM
RICHER BUT OTHER INCOMES THAT MAKE HIM RICHER. IF HE SPENDS HIS MONEY ON THINGS
THAT GIVE RETURNS GREATER THAN WHAT HE SPENT THEN IT WOULD MAKE HIM RICHER BUT
A LOT OF CONSUMPTION EG ON IPHONES, CARS, LUXURY HOUSES AND OFFICES WILL NOT
GIVE INCOME MORE THAN HE SPENT.
What
they call spending to riches:
You can only spend yourself to riches (actually debt perceived as
riches) based on borrowing, even repeated cycles of borrowing and re-depositing
the same borrowed money until debts many times the wealth of the system happens
and it totters on the verge of collapse.
Apparently a lot of the foreign money as the result of Fed reckless
purchases of bonds flowed to China where it fuelled speculative spending and
with the announcement the Fed is stopping printing, foreign money is exiting
and this forces China to tighten.
I read that many Korean households are in serious debt trouble as a
result of spending big on various things like property.
SPENDING TO RICHES IS A DANGEROUS ILLUSION CREATED BY BORROWING MONEY TO
SPEND THAT BOOSTS THE ECONOMY AND THIS BORROWED MONEY CAN BE RECYCLED, LENT AND
REDEPOSITED AND LENT EVEN MANY TIMES CREATING WEALTH OR DEBT BUBBLE THAT IS
MANY TIMES THE WEALTH OF THE SYSTEM.
PEOPLE SEE CREDIT (BORROWING) FUELED AFFLUENCE AS WEALTH BUT FOR ONE WHO
SEES CORRECTLY IT IS DEBT THAT GETS MORE MONSTROUS AND DANGEROUS.
America
too is spending itself to riches:
America printing USD instead of earning USD to fund its purchases from
the world too is a form of keep spending causing ballooning debt to ‘riches’.
Americans are full of credit card and mortgage debts from spending to
riches.
Many local governments in the US are in serious debt, insolvent from
spending to riches.
Many even multinational companies are full of debts, dependent on
refinancing to survive because they spend themselves to riches.
Debt
and asset price inflation essential to spending to riches:
In order to spend to riches you need to borrow to increase your spending
power and there must be asset price inflation that fosters the illusion you are
getting richer.
To give more firepower to your spending you must borrow, lower interest
rates to boost borrowing and there must be considerable asset price inflation
of property and shares fuelled by the debt driven spending to give the illusion
of spending to riches.
IN ORDER TO SPEND TO RICHES IT MUST BE BOOSTED BY BORROWING TO GIVE
SPENDING MORE FIREPOWER AND MORE MONEY CHASING ASSETS GIVE RISE TO ASSET
(PROPERTY) PRICE RISES THAT GIVES A SEMBLANCE OF WEALTH.
THUS SINGAPORE APPEARS VERY WEALTHY BECAUSE PROPERTY PRICES ARE VERY
HIGH AND THIS SPURS PEOPLE TO SPEND MORE BY BORROWING MORE ON THE PERCEPTION
THEY ARE NOW VERY RICH.
ASSET PRICE INFLATION IS NOT TRUE BUT A MIRAGE OF WEALTH.
SPENDING TO RICHES IS ALWAYS AN ILLUSION NEVER GENUINE AND IT IS CREATED
BY A MUTUALLY REINFORCING SPENDING BASED ON BORROWING AND ASSET (PROPERTY)
PRICE INFLATION GIVING A SEMBLANCE NOT TRUTH OF WEALTH.
Not
necessarily the rain that clears the smog:
Unexpected substantial rain has fallen in Sri Damansara and it is still
hazy through the rain. It is fallacious to assume it is the rain that washes
away the smog, it may wash away larger particles but it may be the winds accompanying
the rain that blows away the haze plus the cooling effect of the rain that
alleviates.
IT MAY NOT BE SO MUCH THE RAIN BUT THE ACCOMPANYING WIND THAT BLOWS AWAY
THE SMOG. HOWEVER AFTER SIZEABLE RAIN IT IS STILL HAZY.
Peat
may be like a mosquito coil:
Peat may be like an underground mosquito coil, once lighted it glows and
produces smoke but little or no fire and if it spreads underground it may be
more difficult to detect and douse.
Why
big companies are principal cause of the haze:
If it is true that smouldering dried peat is the perennial intractable
dry season cause of haze then it is big companies with vast plantations that
are the major even entire causes of the haze that blankets the region in
suffocating toxic haze.
By their own admission big companies say 20% of the land they develop
are given to locals and without their financial muscle, locals may not even be
able to develop that 20% themselves and thus big companies are the major
players in the oil palm industry and they may facilitate smallholders who would
otherwise not have developed their smallholdings.
Oil palm plantations even when matured are the antithesis of the jungle
that provides dense coverage and keeps the soil waterlogged even in the dry
season because palms are spaced wide apart and the soil deliberately well
drained to keep it dry and this provide an optimal condition for the sun to dry
the soil and peat and the intentional drainage channels to promote health of
palms ensure the water is drained away rather than retained and this is a
recipe for ignited peat fires that smoulder and spread to cause additional
fires far away.
WITH PEAT FIRES, YOU DO NOT NEED RECKLESS WIDESPREAD ANNUAL BURNING TO
CAUSE MASSIVE SMOG BECAUSE EVEN CARELESS ISOLATED SMALL FIRES THAT RUN OUT OF
CONTROL CAN IGNITE THE PEAT LIKE A MOSQUITO COIL AND IT THEN SPREADS
INSIDIOUSLY TO IGNITE OTHER FIRES SOME DISTANCE AWAY UNTIL THE WHOLE LANDSCAPE
BECOME AN INFERNO OR HELL OF FIRE AND SMOKE.
OIL PALM PLANTATIONS ARE THE ANTITHESIS OF JUNGLES WHOSE DENSE FOILAGE
SHIELDS THE SOIL FROM THE DRYING SUN AND IT TRAPS EVEN WATERLOGS THE SOIL EVEN
IN THE DRY SEASON. BY CONTRAST EVEN WHEN MATURE OIL PALMS ARE SPACED OUT AND
THERE ARE DRAINAGE CHANNELS TO REMOVE WATER SO THAT THE SOIL IS EXPOSED TO THE
DRYING SUN AND ANY MOISTURE IS DRAINED AWAY PROVIDING THE CRUCIAL CONDITIONS
FOR PERENNIAL SMOG AND HAZE.
MAJOR COMPANIES MAY DENY CULPABILITY AND THINK THEY ARE SCRUPULOUS BUT
IT MAY BE PARTLY DELUSION BECAUSE THEY BEAR HEAVY KARMA AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR
DESTROYING VAST TRACKS OF SWAMPY LANDS EXPOSING UNDERLYING PEAT TO DRYING AND
BURNING.
Widespread
jungle clearance for oil palm in Sabah and Sarawak:
Natives are being forcibly evicted and vast tracts of forests cleared to
plant oil palm in Sabah and Sarawak and anyone who thinks oil palm estates are
an adequate replacement for jungles is deluded.
OIL PALM ESTATES CAN NEVER ADEQUATELY SUBSTITUTE FOR THE JUNGLES THAT
ARE RECKLESSLY CUT DOWN BECAUSE OIL PALM ESTATES HAVE WELL SPACED TREES AND
WELL DRAINED GROUND THAT MEANS THE SOIL IS EXPOSED TO DRYING AND MORE FLOODING
WILL OCCUR BECAUSE THE RAIN IS NOT TRAPPED BUT FLOWS SWIFTLY TO RIVERS WHICH
THEN OVERFLOW AND DAMAGE. AND IF THERE IS PEAT UNDERLYING (LIKELY) THEN IT IS
LIKE DISTURBING A HORNET’S NEST THAT RETURNS ANNUALLY TO HAUNT THE PEOPLE.
IT IS BIG COMPANIES IN GREEDY SEARCH OF WEALTH THAT DESTROYS AND IT IS
THE MASSES WHO SUFFER THE HAZES AND FLOODS.
Why
the Cameron Highlands is getting hotter:
The massive destruction of rain forest and their replacement with
vegetable farms is not an adequate substitute, the rain forests trap much
moisture that vegetable farms cannot and this may be a reason why the Camerons’
is now much warmer.
The
proximate and original cause of haze:
Even if it is smallholders’ fires that set the whole place on fire and
haze, the ultimate cause is the clearing of the land and exposing of the soil
to drying plus deliberate drainage of the soil in the name of oil palm
plantations that is the cause of the smog.
And feckless oil plantations conscious of negative publicity may secretly
hand over their cleared vegetation to neighbouring smallholders to burn by
proxy to escape culpability.
Oil
palm estates also promote floods:
Because oil palm estates are engineered to drain water away to keep the
trees free from waterlogging, it means water is rapidly channelled away from
estates into rivers making them more prone to flooding, This may be an
important reason why more severe floods occur in many parts of the country.
The
karma of commercial development:
The government is proud to highlight to you its endless ‘great’ efforts
to develop the country and give you an ever higher quality of life. Rather than
good and incurs merit, it is evil and incurs karma to be repaid as suffering.
A lot of development is totally unnecessary and for profligate
consumption so that capitalists can make oversized profits and so it is a form
of exploitation and depletion/destruction of resources.
There is no need for such hasty massive destruction of forests to plant
oil palm and it is driven by greed to get rich quick and then oil palm
producers will go on promotion campaigns to find and advocate new uses for palm
oil (eg biodiesel).
IT IS NOT THAT WE ARE STARVING THAT WE NEED SUCH MASSIVE OIL PALM
CULTIVATION BUT IT IS GREED AND THEN THEY WILL TRY TO FIND MARKET FOR THEIR
OIL, PROMOTE MORE USES OF OIL PALM THAT LEAD TO ALL KINDS OF ABUSIVE PRACTICES.
ANYONE WHO THINKS NOTHING OF DEVELOPMENT, THINKS IT IS GOOD IS DELUDED.
IT DOES NOT MEET WITH GOD’S APPROVAL WHICH IS FOR FRUGALITY, CONTENTMENT RATHER
THAN DESIRE AND DEMAND FOR EVER MORE MATERIAL GOODS THAT KEEPS THE PERSON
BONDED TO THIS WORLD OF DEATH AND SUFFERING.
IT IS BECAUSE OF THE HIGHER STANDARDS OF LIVING THAT YOUR GOVERNMENT
PROVIDES THAT YOU BECOME ATTACHED TO YOUR LIVES HERE TO DIE AND RETURN HERE
AGAIN AND AGAIN AND SO IT IS NOT GOOD BUT EVIL TO DEVELOP MATERIALLY RATHER
THAN SPIRITUALLY.
Whoever
promotes material or economic welfare is asking for karma:
Better you starve to death in destitution and go to heaven then you live
fat as a pig in cosy comfort and languish in hell thereafter.
Anyone who advocates material welfare, to enjoy and make comfortable
your life here is on the side of suffering and death and setting himself up for
suffering not happiness after he dies. The Buddha advocates renunciation and
Jesus said you should deny yourself and so anyone who dallies with this world,
has found his life here, wants to feather his bed here has found death and
suffering he thinks is life and happiness.
IF YOU THINK NOTHING OR IT IS GOOD TO PROMOTE ECONOMIC AND MATERIAL
WELLBEING YOU ARE DELUDED BECAUSE IT IS THE PATH TO RUIN, TO ETERNAL SUFFERING
AND DEATH AND A RETURN HERE.
Many
developments not necessary and not good for anyone:
Oil palm estates are not even good for its developers because it brings
terrible karma for them for the harm to the environment. It is not good for the
people because it brings floods and haze that suffocates and it is not good for
the environment in that it destroys habitats, kills many animals and plants.
NOT EVEN FOR THE DEVELOPERS ARE DEVELOPMENTS GOOD BECAUSE THEY ARE
INCURRING TERRIBLE KARMA TO BE REPAID BY SUFFERING AND DEVELOPMENTS ARE
UNNECESSARY AND ACTUALLY HARM THE PEOPLE, ANIMALS AND THE ENVIRONMENT. A GLUT
OF OIL PALM PROMOTES EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION LEADING TO OBESITY AND THAT IS NOT
GOOD.
Haze
is just as bad after yesterday’s downpour:
The haze is just as bad today after yesterday’s unexpected downpour and
getting out into the open even briefly from the air condition of my place, the
air hits me, I immediately sense the disagreeable quality and difficulty in
breathing.
IT IS NOT RAIN HERE THAT WILL CLEAR THE HAZE BUT RAIN IN THE SOURCE OF
HAZE THAT WILL CLEAR IT AND IT MUST BE HEAVY ENOUGH TO DOUSE THE PEAT FIRES.
THIS HAZE HAS SERIOUS HEALTH HAZARDS BUT ORDINARY PEOPLE CANNOT DO
ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
Thousands
of hectares of crops in Dumai burnt:
He said that 1,000ha of pineapple farms and thousands of
hectares of estates (in Dumai) had been
razed, causing huge loses to smallholders.
It is unlikely far farmers deliberately burnt their crops and so these
hectares of destroyed crops may reflect burning run out of control or it may be
the land they were planted is laden with peat (as reporters mentioned) and
small fires lit may spread via the peat to engulf everything else including
crops.
Would
farmers carelessly burn down their dear crops year after year?
Would you burn down your house year after year or after having been
burnt once you would be much more careful, yet still you get burnt?
IT IS UNLIKELY SUMATRAN FARMERS HAD NOT LEARNT LESSONS FROM THE PAST AND
DO NOT MIND HAVING THEIR CROPS DESTROYED BUT THE BLAZES MUST BE DESPITE THEIR
EFFORTS TO PREVENT. THE REASON IS BECAUSE OF THE HAZARDOUS PEAT UNDERLYING
THEIR CROPS.
THUS THE FACT THAT THE HAZE IS A PERRENIAL PROBLEM INDICATES THERE IS A
TINDERBOX, PEAT IN THE LAND THAT MAKES IT VULNERABLE TO OUT OF CONTROL BLAZES.
Peat
converts isolated careless burning into regional disasters:
Even if slash and burn featured in the regional burning disaster it must
be despite precautions because nobody likes his crops to be burnt down to
suffer big losses.
Thus it must be because slash and burn in some areas have spread out of
control far and wide defeating efforts to restrict or put it out because the
presence of peat defeats whatever efforts locals can muster to douse it out.
UNLESS PEOPLE ENJOY SEEING THEIR CROPS BURNT, SLASH AND BURN CAN RESULT
IN SUCH REGIONAL DISASTER BECAUSE THEY SPREAD FROM BURNT AREAS OUT OF CONTROL
AND SUCH SPREAD IS BECAUSE OF THE PRESENCE OF PEAT THAT IS EASILY FLAMMABLE AND
HARD TO DOUSE OFF.
My
air purifier still works after 15 years:
I decided to try my dormant made in Canada console air purifier and it
still works, I noticed the plates and wires are coated with thick fine soot.
There are two types of purifiers, one uses paper filters, mine works by
charging the smoke and then using electrostatic plates to remove the dust.
Breathing
better with air purifier:
I sense I breathe easier with the five seasons purifier. Many commercial
air purifiers may not work, they do not really clean the air of smoke and so if
you buy ordinary branded air cleaners like those made by Toshiba, Panasonic
they may be useless. You need filters that can remove very small airborne
particles and I think electrostatic filtration may be the cheapest only means.
Breathe
less live longer better:
Smokers should not be bothered by the haze because they routinely
administer themselves smoke and toxins far greater than the haze.
You can breathe essentially or you can breathe excessive more than
actually required just as you can eat excessively. The reason you need to
breathe is to intake oxygen and expel toxic waste CO2 but the air inhaled
contains all sorts of poisonous pollutants like the current smog and so if you
inhale minimally you will get less toxins, suffer less now and later as a
result of lung damage and live longer happier.
But the breathing of ordinary people is beyond their control, it is
automated, programmed, unconscious, way in excess of what is actually required.
The breathing of ordinary people is mindlessly rehashed automatically
whilst they are occupied with the narrow affairs of the day, it has a substance
and style of prolonging, changing speed and strength, they (greedily,
emotionally) inhale more deeply and frequently than actually essential and thus
inhale more atmospheric poisons to suffer more and die earlier. Emotions eg
anxiety or fear and excitement intensify their breathing and this is always
wasteful, increases inhalation and poison administration. Further they do a lot
of useless, unnecessary work like dancing, exercise, singing, sports that
mandate much higher breathing which thus increase their intake of atmospheric
poisons.
A person who has no style and is mindful breathes unhurriedly, mindfully
for the minimum amount. He consciously draws in a breath at constant speed and
strength without prolonging at a sedate not rapid rate and he does not indulge
in unnecessary activities like singing, dancing and sports that increases
considerable his breathing needs nor is his breathing increased by stirred
emotions (excitement, fear).
THE BREATHING OF ORDINARY PEOPLE ARE UNCONSCIOUS BEYOND THEIR CONTROL
AND FAR MORE THAN ACTUALLY NEEDED AND SO THEY DRAW IN MORE ATMOSPHERIC TOXINS
AND HAZE, SUFFER MORE NOW AND LATER. THERE IS A STYLE IN PROLONGING, CHANGING
SPEED AND STRENGTH IN THEIR BREATHING THAT IS MORE RAPID AND DEEPER THAN
NECESSARY, IN ADDITION THEIR BREATHING IS INCREASED EVEN CONSIDERABLY BY
EXCITEMENT, ANXIETY AND THEY DO A LOT OF UNNESSARY WORK THAT RAISES THEIR
BREATHING NEEDS AND SO THEY WILL BURN OUT FASTER.
SMOKERS SHOULD NOT BOTHER ABOUT THE HAZE, THEIR SMOKING HARMS THEM FAR
WORSE THAN THE HAZE.
