When I first (not after repeated readings) read it in the New Testament two decades ago it was immediately clear to me Jesus was referring to the coming of a counsellor who is the Holy Spirit and his coming will portend the end of the world.

How many Christians poring lifelong studiously over the bible realize what Jesus was stating? I would say infinitesimally few if any.

It is never an accident they failed to grasp because they do not possess understanding only rote memory and they are not good and true that they failed to grasp what Jesus was saying.

Jesus said that those who spoke against him will be forgiven but those who spoke against the Holy Spirit will not be. Why the Holy Spirit in particular and not any other persons? If the Holy Spirit will also come and he will point out clearly your sins then it makes sense you will then deserve to be condemned for another eternity.

(What is said below was in Jesus’ farewell message in John’s gospel interspersed amongst several passages to make it less obvious but still obvious to those with understanding.)
