The danger of looking down:

Your head is very heavy and it is supported unstably by two very small joints at the back of the skull so it always has the tendency to topple forwards and is prevented from doing so by powerful muscles at the back of the head and neck. When the head is upright its weight is evenly distributed over the two supporting joint surfaces but when you look down the weight is shifted to the front of the joints that become worn out and ligaments loosened with age enabling the head to slide forwards impinging, pressing on the vital vagus nerve that controls heart beat swallowing and gut motion that can kill the person prematurely.
