I was watching last night an old BBC nature documentary by that title that I had downloaded from the internet sometime ago and it conveyed a few essential facts about the earth and life on it that many may not be aware of.
The documentary was accompanied by considerable unnecessary dramatic audio and visual hype that detracts rather than enhance and all the scientists featured were unfailingly very constantly emotional even aggressive people who expressed themselves with a constant forceful substance and style combo that made their essentially simple messages unnecessarily hard to grasp.
The earth is more than 4 billion years old but (up to) about 200 million years ago, in the Jurassic geologic period, all the continents we know today existed together in a single super continent (Pangea) that was surrounded by ocean all around. Quite suddenly in the middle Jurassic period some 150 million years ago, a long split developed that tore what is today North and South America from the super continent, creating the Atlantic ocean and this fissure that is like a baseball seam in the earth’s crust stretches in mid ocean from Iceland all the length of the North and South Atlantic is still actively spewing larva and new crust still pushing the Americas away from Europe and Africa.
Before the split, the climate of the super continent was uniformly that of a super monsoon characterized by a dry season and a wet season. The dinosaurs that existed before the split were homogenous, less diverse and much smaller in all parts of the super continent because they were free to move about and the climate was homogenous.
The split was a catastrophic event that caused massive extinction in the oceans as a result of the massive volcanism but this cataclysm changed the evolution of the world because it separated the various continents and changed the climate of the separated continents so that some parts became humid tropical, some parts became frozen instead of being uniformly monsoonal (alternating wet and dry seasons).
As a result of this change in climate (due to the creation of oceans with circulation or ocean currents between the separated land masses) and separation of the continents, the previously smaller and homogenous dinosaurs that existed in the super continent had the opportunity to differentiate according to the changed climatic conditions they were isolated in and there began a great diversification and growth in size of the dinosaurs so that they became 40 feet tall giants that dominated the earth for more than 50 million years in the late Jurassic period.
The mystery of the Jurassic is essentially the paucity of archeological evidence (until the discovery of middle Jurassic dinosaur bones in Patagonia in Argentina in recent years) of the existence of the dinosaurs in the middle Jurassic period between their earlier non-dominant homogenous existence in early Jurassic and their dominant diverse gigantic existences in the late Jurassic. This middle Jurassic period was the period where the continents were breaking away and there was mass extinction in the seas.
THUS BARELY 150 MILLION YEARS AGO, IN THE MIDDLE JURASSIC PERIOD, THERE WAS ONLY ONE SUPERCONTINENT ON EARTH SURROUNDED BY OCEAN THAT HAD A SUPER-MONSOON (ALTERNATING DRY AND WET SEASON) TYPE CLIMATE.
THEN A MASSIVE FISSURE DEVELOPED IN THE EARTH’S CRUST THAT TORE THE AMERICAS AWAY, CREATING THE ATLANTIC OCEANS AND THIS CAUSED MASS EXTINCTION MAINLY IN THE OCEANS. AS A RESULT OF THE SEPARATION OF THE CONTINENTS AND THE EMERGENCE OF THE ATLANTIC OCEANS WHOSE CURRENTS INFLUENCED CLIMATE, THERE BEGAN TO DEVELOP A DIVERSITY OF CLIMATES (TROPICAL TO ICE BOUND POLAR) THAT GAVE THE PREVIOUSLY UNREMARKABLE HOMOGENOUS DINOSAURS THE OPPORTUNITY TO THRIVE IN ISOLATION FROM EACH OTHER TO BECOME THE DOMINANT SPECIES OF THE EARTH FOR MANY MILLIONS OF YEARS.
There is little geologic evidence of higher forms of life in the first 3 billion years of the earth’s existence but it does not necessarily mean higher life forms were not present. Their records may have been obliterated.
Mankind is not homo sapiens but mankind is a specific branch of homo sapiens called homo sapiens sapiens that sprang up in Africa some 50-70,000 years ago who then branched out of Africa some 50,000 years ago.
In just a short 50,000 years since mankind left Africa, he has dominated the earth, caused numerous mass extinctions of animals, slashed and burnt forests, probably killed off preexistent Neanderthals and brought the earth to the verge of climatic and environmental instability that will destroy all life on earth.
Thus it seems that the earth cannot afford to host humans and humans can only be permitted to exist on earth when the Age is coming to a close to enable those who will redeem themselves to reform and head for heaven whilst the vast majority, including those who think they are good and wise are destined to be banished to another eternity of punishment.
BECAUSE MANKIND CANNOT BE PERMITTED TO EXIST ON EARTH UNTIL CLOSE TO THE END OF THE AGE, IF YOU DO NOT GO TO HEAVEN, YOU HAVE NO OPPORTUNITY TO EXIST AS HUMANS (WHOSE EXISTENCE IS NOT ALL WONDERFUL EITHER) ON EARTH, AND YOU ARE DOOMED TO INNUMERABLE REPEATED EXISTENCES AS ANIMALS WHERE YOU CAN STILL INDULGE YOUR LIKES AND DISLIKES UNTIL SUCH A TIME WHEN THE CLOSE OF THE AGE IS AT HAND THAT YOU CAN EXIST AS HUMANS.
As the Buddha said, faster than the man who can catch four falling arrows goes the sun and moon, faster than sun & moon goes the angels, but faster than the angels, the life of a man comes to an end and the next time you return as a man here will be another eternity.
This was said by the Blessed One: "If a single person were to wander & transmigrate on for an aeon (age), he/she would leave behind a chain of bones, a pile of bones, a heap of bones as large as this Mount Vepulla."
The accumulation of a single person'sbones for an aeon would be a heapon a par with the mountain, so said the Great Seer.(He declared this to be the great Mount Vepullato the north of Vulture's Peakin the mountain-ring of the Magadhans.)*But when that person seeswith right discernment the four Noble Truths --stress, the cause of stress,the transcending of stress & the Noble Eightfold Path,the way to the stilling of stress --having wandered on seven times at most, then,with the ending of all fetters,he puts a stop to stress.
(If no one before or since has taught you what the Buddha said above, he is the highest teacher. The Buddha said encompassing mind with mind he can know your mind. Thus encompassing mind with mind, the Buddha knows the minds of all beings in existence and his assertion that he is the highest teacher is based on his knowing the minds of all beings in existence. He said no Brahma or Mara can overturn what he said)
It Is All In The Mind:
Whatever pleasures there are and however blissful they may be in heaven and even higher are enjoyed in conjunction with a being’s mind, never enjoyed without or outside his mind.
Because a person’s mind is needed to enjoy whatever bliss there is in external worlds, it is possible that the external world is totally unnecessary for a being that is wise to enjoy whatever bliss there is in existence.
Thus it may be that the Buddha said the highest brahmas exist replete with bliss in formless existences in life spans that last eons and even that is not the highest but enlightened beings have put an end to all existence and gone beyond all existing in permanent unchanging bliss.
It is an abiding delusion of beings that they need something other than their minds, outside their minds in an external world, be it here or in heaven to enjoy themselves.
Once a being wakes up to the delusion and illusion that it needs an external world to enjoy itself, it ceases to desire consciousness and existence and that is the process of enlightenment or awakening.
Force that is involuntary, creating stress and tension is needed for him to twist his head severely to one side and look in an evasive way in a different direction in conflict with his head. His head and neck is contorted by mental force to one side.
Whoever you are, it is much more stressful to twist your head thus compared with having it passively upright with the eyes facing where the face is directed. Because this posture is unnecessarily stressful, it is going against self or acting, putting on a show, in this case hiding your inner thoughts and emotions from others, avoiding mentally confronting certain things.
IT IS THE CONSIDERABLE TENSION OR FORCE IN HIS MIND THAT FORCES HIM TO TWIST AND TILT HIS HEAD TO ONE SIDE AND DEVIATE HIS EYES AS HE LAPSES INTO A PRIVATE WORLD OF DAYDREAMING DETACHED FROM REALITY, DETACHED FROM THE WORLD THAT HE SO CRAVES TO EXIST IN. WHOEVER YOU ARE, BECAUSE PLACING YOUR HEAD AND EYES IN SUCH A POSTURE CREATES STRESS COMPARED WITH A HEAD THAT IS GRAVITAIONALLY NEUTRAL UPRIGHT, IT IS GOING AGAINST SELF AND HE IS ACTING, PUTTING ON AN UNCONSCIOUS SHOW.
Like the rest of mankind, his mind is seized by mental force that can rise to extremely powerful strength, that will not let him go easily and he is headed for further stress as the Buddha said, like an ocean compared to the few drops that remain in those who have entered the dharma stream and even that is up to seven more lifetimes.
Like the rest of humanity, it is emotional force that drives him not reason that guides him and he is merely an accomplished or superior robot at memorizing and rendering skills that society rewards him for. Many like to think that despite their emotionality, they are nevertheless creatures of reason; they are kidding themselves because what they call their reasoning is their false assumptions and stratagems for survival and getting along, a lot of their reasons are excuses and can be proven to be faulty on examining.
Say Sorry But Say It Without Emotion:
Say you are sorry by all means but make sure you say it without emotion, without smiling or grimacing otherwise you are transmitting emotional sorry rather than reasoned sorry which also disturbs or pains the recipient just as it pains you.
Rather than icing on the cake, the emotional accompaniment negates any sincerity in the apology and harms the recipient. If you think the emotional accompaniment to your being sorry is meritorious, benefits the recipient and you, you may be right or deluded.
Quote Minister: Singapore should apologize.
Comment: People almost never ask others to ‘feel sorry’ they ask others (rightly or wrongly) to apologize.
Although being sorry is always emotional in ordinary people, they emotionally smile or they act as if they are deeply pained when they say they are sorry, it is possible to say you are sorry or you regret your actions without accompanying histrionics and that is not sinful but this is never seen in this world. There are some who appear impassive when they say they are sorry but there is force or emotion in their forced impassiveness.
Stunned Look:
Even though it is a fish, there is an expression in its eyes (not no expression) that is not joyful but it is dazed or scattered, even as if in terror. As the Buddha said, he can think of nothing more tormenting than hell or the animal womb. Should you have the misfortune to exist as an animal as a result of misdeeds undertaken as a human, your consciousness may be squashed so that your intellectual capability is severely restricted but your ability to experience suffering and fear is undiminished.
It is not possible for a noble person to have eyes that stare in a stunned fearful way that ordinary people and animals possess.
Quote: Get a reality check.
Comment: It is likely if not always that the message is accompanied by derisiveness and telling off others. It is always a rote statement that the speaker copied from others because it is the ‘in language’ or sounds ‘nice’ or he likes it. You do not need discernment to survive well in this world, just imitate or ape what others say or do and you can get along very well in this world.
It is not just in this instance but as always what the person says or does is reproduced slickly by rote from his mental jukebox.
Unrighteous Indignation:
Can you speak any of the many things I spoke of that no man has spoken before? Did you discover what mental forces are, what like and dislike is about, what the emotions are made of, how stretching syllables, changing speed and loudness are the only sources of the stress, restlessness and distraction that all beings here must suffer from?
Can you speak without stretching your syllables, changing speed and loudness? If you think you can and I can demonstrate constant stretching of syllables, changes in loudness and speed, then aren’t you undiscerning and deluded, unable to see what you are perpetrating all the time that are the infallible roots of the stress, restlessness and inability to concentrate that must surely beset you and believing what is false is true?
If I can speak without stretching syllables, changing speed and loudness whilst all creatures here (animals and humans) cannot do so, even after it has been pointed out to them, even after I have personally demonstrated to them how they do so, do you deem it fit to think you are my peer?
IF YOU & EVERYONE IN THIS WORLD CANNOT SAY ANY OF THE MANY THINGS I SAID, DID NOT CHANGE THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE WORLD NOT ONCE BUT TWICE AFTER 1977 AND IN RECENT YEARS, CANNOT STOP YOURSELF STRETCHING SYLLABLES, CHANGING SPEED AND LOUDNESS WHEN THEY ARE THE INALIENABLE SOURCE OF THE STRESS, RESTLESSNESS AND DISTRACTION THAT MUST BESET YOU AND WILL DRIVE YOU TO FINAL MADNESS, IT IS YOU WHO IS ARROGANT TO THINK YOU ARE MY PEER, NOT ME WHO THINKS I AM DIFFERENT FROM YOU AND THE REST.
IF I DID NOT CHANGE THE WORLD’S CONSCIOUSNESS AFTER 1977 AND IN RECENT YEARS, DO YOU THINK YOU OR ANY OF YOUR COHORTS CAN AND WILL DO SO? DID YOU BENEFIT FROM THE CONSCIOUSNESS CHANGES THAT SWEPT AROUND THE WORLD?
No Compassion:
IS THE POPE’S SPEECH SO SACROSANCT (UNTOUCHABLE) THAT THE QUOTE CANNOT BE RETRACTED OR THE SPEECH WOULD THEN COLLAPSE?
IF THERE IS NOTHING SACROSANCT ABOUT THE QUOTE AND THE SPEECH WILL NOT COLLAPSE WITHOUT THE QUOTE, THERE IS EVEN LITTLE EVERLASTING VALUE IN THE SPEECH, LET ALONE THE QUOTE, THEN CONSIDERING THAT IT HAS UPSET MUSLIMS AND EXPOSED CHRISTIANS AND EVEN THE POPE HIMSELF TO THE DANGER OF HARM, THE PERSON WHO HAS TRUE CONSCIENCE AND CONCERN FOR THE WELFARE OF OTHERS WILL VOLUNTARILY ANNOUNCE THE RETRACTION OF HIS QUOTE AND STATE HE MADE A MISTAKE OR WAS WRONG TO QUOTE THE EMPEROR.
THE POSSIBLE REASONS FOR BEING RECALCITRANT IS EMOTIONAL UNREASONING OR IRRATIONAL STUBBORNNESS, PRIDE AND ATTACHMENT TO HIS SPEECH AND A LACK OF (TRUE) CONCERN FOR THE WELFARE OF OTHERS.
THE POPE LIKES TO LECTURE OTHERS THAT REASON AND RELIGION GOES TOGETHER BUT HIS ACTIONS IN REFUSING TO RETRACT HIS QUOTE SHOWS HE HAS LITTLE REASON BUT PLENTY OF EMOTION IN HIM. HE IS DEEPLY SORRY FOR THE REACTIONS BUT NOT DEEPLY SORRY FOR THE QUOTE THAT CAUSED THE REACTIONS.
IT IS FALSE LOGIC THAT WILL END IN MAD LOGIC IF YOU THINK THAT "Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." HAS A CONTEXT IN THE DISCUSSION THAT VIOLENCE AND RELIGION DO NOT GO TOGETHER. THIS QUOTE HAS A CONTEXT IF THE MESSAGE IS ISLAM IS A FALSE OR EVIL RELIGION OR WE MUST RALLY TO OPPOSE ISLAM.
IF YOU AND THE POPE ACCEPTS THAT HE HAS BEEN MISUNDERSTOOD OR QUOTED OUT OF CONTEXT WITHOUT EXAMINING THE QUOTE IN ITS CONTEXT, THEN YOU ARE PRESUMPTUOUS, UNRIGHTEOUSLY ACCEPTING WHAT YOU HAVE NOT DETERMINED AS TRUE THAT WILL LEAD TO WOE.
IF YOU AND THE POPE HAS EXAMINED THE QUOTE IN ITS CONTEXT AND YOU BELIEVE HE HAS BEEN MISUNDERSTOOD OR THE QUOTE WAS CORRECT IN ITS CONTEXT WHEN IT IS NOT, THEN YOU ARE DELUDED THAT TOO WILL LEAD TO WOE.
IF THE POPE’S INTENDED MESSAGE IS THAT VIOLENCE AND RELIGION DO NOT GO TOGETHER THEN THERE IS NO CONTEXT OR BACKGROUND FOR HIS QUOTE.
IF THE POPE’S INTENTION IS TO LAUNCH A HOLY WAR, TO DISCREDIT ISLAM AS A FAKE OR PARIAH RELIGION THEN THERE IS A CONTEXT OR ENVIRONMENT FOR HIS QUOTE.
IF THE POPE’S MESSAGE IS THAT VIOLENCE AND RELIGION DO NOT GO TOGETHER, THEN BY QUOTING THE EMPEROR, HE IS INTENTIONALLY OR UNWITTINGLY SUGGESTING TO LISTENERS THAT ISLAM IS A FALSE OR PARIAH RELIGION.
The close of the Age:
Jesus said that if the householder knew the hour the burglar will come, his house will not be broken into, so it is that people think that the close of the Age is remote, future generations’ concerns but the global warming and continued destruction of forests are indication that mankind is committing mass suicide.
And his disciples came to him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field." 37 He answered, "He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; 38* the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. 40 Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. 41* The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, 42* and throw them into the furnace of fire; there men will weep and gnash their teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.
As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?" 4 And Jesus answered them, "Take heed that no one leads you astray. 5* For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray. 6* And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: 8 all this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs.
9* "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation, and put you to death; and you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. 10 And then many will fall away, * and betray one another, and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because wickedness is multiplied, most men's love will grow cold. 13* But he who endures to the end will be saved. 14* And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, as a testimony to all nations; and then the end will come.
15* "So when you see the desolating sacrilege spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; 17* let him who is on the housetop not go down to take what is in his house; 18 and let him who is in the field not turn back to take his mantle. 19* And alas for those who are with child and for those who give suck in those days! 20 Pray that your flight may not be in winter or on a sabbath. 21* For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. 22 And if those days had not been shortened, no human being would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23 Then if any one says to you, 'Lo, here is the Christ!' or 'There he is!' do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 25 Lo, I have told you beforehand. 26* So, if they say to you, 'Lo, he is in the wilderness,' do not go out; if they say, 'Lo, he is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. 27 For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of man. 28* Wherever the body is, there the eagles * will be gathered together.
29* "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken; 30* then will appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory; 31* and he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32 "From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 34* Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place. 35* Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
36* "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, * but the Father only. 37* As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they did not know until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of man. 40* Then two men will be in the field; one is taken and one is left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one is taken and one is left. 42* Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43* * But know this, that if the householder had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect (Many do not believe anything will happen to the earth or a close of the Age is possible and even those who think it is possible think it will not happen in his time but someone else’s time; he will ‘enjoy’ his life and ‘pass away peacefully’ without anything amiss).
45* "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. 47 Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. 48 But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed,' 49* and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eats and drinks with the drunken, 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, 51* and will punish * him, and put him with the hypocrites; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.
Why The Buddha Never Taught You To Appease Hearts:
At its best, appeasing hearts is speaking what is pleasing to others. At its worse, appeasing others is blind subservience.
The Buddha taught that you should have a sense of the right occasion to say only what is factual, beneficial and pleasing or displeasing to others.
Therefore according to the Buddha you should not speak just because something is pleasing to another, let alone appeasing as the pope encourages you, but you speak when it is factual, beneficial and pleasing to the other.
Did Jesus ever say, ‘Appeasing you I say or pleasing you I say’ or did he say, “Truly, I say to you’? Therefore you should never make efforts to appease others in your speech or actions but to speak and do the truth.
Jesus said many will call my name and he will tell them he don’t know you, you evil doers. Even the maidens who came to meet the groom who forgot to bring oil will be shut out even after they then brought oil, so how can Jesus teach you to appease others.
Jesus did not say that he who loves me is the one who appeases my heart but he said he who loves me is the one who obeys my commands.
