Air France Airbus crashed because of ice blocked pitot tubes:
Some
years ago the Air France airbus flying from Brazil crashed over the Atlantic
Ocean during a storm because the poorly designed pitot tubes was blocked by
frozen ice which triggered a stall alarm that the inexperienced copilot fatally
responded by climbing over the pitch dark ocean when he should have dived. The
captain was sleeping with his wife who should not have been onboard and when he
returned to the cockpit it was too late and he screamed dive, dive, dive.
What
possibly happened was the captain was wrong to leave the plane to the
inexperienced copilot on a stormy night to sleep with his wife who wasn’t
supposed to be onboard. When the stall alarm went off the inexperienced copilot
thought it wiser to climb slowly as he cannot see the ocean in darkness but
this was fatal because it exposed the underside of his wings to strong
headwinds that pushed the plane upright until it lost lift and plunged tail
first into the ocean, when the captain returned to the cockpit he was screaming
dive, dive, dive.
IN
A STALL, THE AIRFLOW IN THE PITOT TUBES SHOULD BE REVERSED OR STILL FLOWING AND
NO FLOW INDICATES A BLOCKED PITOT TUBE NOT STALL. EVEN SO, IF THERE WAS TRULY A
STALL THE PLANE SHOULD BE ANGLED SHARPLY NOSE UP AGAINST THE HORIZONTAL AND SO
THE COPILOT SHOULD REALIZE FROM THE HORIZONTAL OR LEVEL POSITION OF THE
AIRCRAFT THAT IT WAS NOT A STALL.
IF
THE YOUNG COPILOT UNDERSTOOD, HE WOULD KNOW THAT ONLY A BLOCKED PITOT TUBE CAN
CAUSE ZERO AIRFLOW, IN A STALL, AIR WILL STILL BE FLOWING THROUGH THE PITOT
